Gamboa Wins his first World Title!

April 17, 2009: Yuriorkis Gamboa vs Jose Rojas - Primm, NV / Chris ... - Images by Fightwireimages.com I would hate to take away from the abilities of the Cuban Olympian and his title winning performance, but I find it disgraceful, how the networks, sanctioning bodies and media have built this kid up and made him a champion so early in his career fighting absolutley no one. I wonder how every other fighter in his division must feel who has fought everyone and their sister and never given the opportunity to fight for a title. I advise everyone to REALLY take a closer look at his opponents record and tell me he deserved to be put in line for a title so early. I guess you must be an Olympian and have a promoter with plently of money to line some pockets here in the US. I just hope that his promoter wasn't just spring boarding him to the top to recoup that hefty signing bonus he dished out for the three olympians; Gamboa, Solis and Barthelemy who was let go as soon as he lost his first fight. I would hate to see Gamboas career rushed and cut short because of greed.

Excellent point there my friend. I agree with you totally. I was actually thinking the same thing during the fight. It happens all the time in boxing and that's sad. Money rules our sport. The glory that was once there has all but left.
