On Friday night the WBO Feather weight champion Yuriorkis Gamboa will trade in the gloves for the suit. The 2004 Cuban gold medalist will be promoting his first fight card under “El Ciclon Promotions” in association with Henry Rivalta.
The main event on the card titled “Battle at the Beach” will be the highly anticipated match up between two local fighters from South Florida. Joey “Twinkle Fingers” Hernandez (15-0 8KO’s) puts his undefeated record on the line against hard hitting Ed “The Lion” Paredes (22-3 13 KO’s).
Many didn’t think this fight would actually get done after months of rumors that the fight was on and off again. But this Friday night live from the Miami Beach Resort and Spa the two have promised to put on an exciting action packed fight.
“This will be no MMA fight; you won’t see no quick knockdowns, what you will see is a legitimate boxer put on a display of pure boxing skills. I will toy with Ed and he won’t go past the eighth”, said Hernandez at the press conference on Tuesday.
“Twinkle Fingers” Hernandez is coming into this fight riding a five fight knockout streak and seeing the same result in six of his last seven bouts.
Meanwhile Paredes is fresh off a revenge victory over journey man Gilbert Venegas who TKO’d the 24 year old back in “07.
This fight has heavy implications for both fighters’ careers as the victor is expected to climb up the ranks and crack the top ten in the welterweight division. Another perk for both fighters is the WBC FecarBox Welter weight title which will be on the line.
Other notable bouts on the card feature undefeated Cuban Stalin Lopez (3-0 2 KO’s) taking on Javier Garcia, lightweight Richard Abril makes his return to the ring after suffering the only loss of his career a split decision disappointment to Breidis Prescott, and making his debut is fellow Cuban and brother if the WBO feather weight champ Yuriorkis Gamboa is Yoelvis Gamboa.
Tickets are available at the door (4833 Collins Ave) for ringside $100 and $25 for general admission. For ticket info in advance you can contact: 305-917-5656.
